The Terriers of old beat Jennings 70-51 and claimed the Class 4A State title, but for Vandebilt to bring home a long awaited second ring, the Terriers would have to get past a school making its second-straight championship game appearance: Madison prep.
The Division II Select state championship started in Vandebilt’s favor. The Terriers outscored the Chargers 27-20 in the first half, but Madison Prep stormed back in the second: rallying off a 6-0 run at the start of the third quarter.
The back-and-forth affair began, and the Terriers trailed for the first time all game, when Madison Prep scored an and-1 layup to take a 32-31 lead.
However, the Terriers fought back in the fourth. Most Outstanding Player Makayla Charles scored two of her game-high 14 points to tie the game at 39-39 with five minutes left in the game, and with another tie at 42-42, Tyanna Stewart banked in the go-ahead layup.
Vandebilt Catholic beat Madison Prep 46-42 to win the Division II Select Championship.
