MHPS superintendent discusses idea of reorganization of schools floated at work session Thursday

At Thursday night’s Mountain Home School Board work session, they began discussion on long term plans for a possible district-wide restructuring and high school addition. The main purpose of the idea is to optimize space and efficiency.
A key part of the proposal is adding on to the current high school and moving the ninth grade to the current building. The board emphasized any changes would not be made prior to the 2030-31 school year.

In a letter sent to staff following the meeting, Superintendent Allyson Dewey says:

If funds allow (i.e. a millage increase and/or state partnership funding), a possible reorganization could look like this:

Kindergarten and 1st Grade: Nelson-Wilks-Herron

Grades 2, 3, and 4: Hackler Intermediate School

Grades 5 and 6: Pinkston Middle School

Grades 7 and 8: Mountain Home Junior High

Grades 9-12: Mountain Home High School

Alternative School: Current Kindergarten Campus

The Guy Berry building could house various offices and large spaces for activities to use after school.

Dewey emphasized that although the Board was supportive of pursing the possibility of the reorganization, it would be dependent on a number of factors, including the passage of a millage in the future, which they don’t plan on moving forward on for several years.

Dewey tells KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News the idea for the reorganization is to help students.
