INDEPENDENCE, La. (WGNO) — A traveling game vendor from Texas has been arrested in Independence on charges of child and animal sex crimes.
According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a tip claiming that 30-year-old Christopher Barnes, of Seguin, Texas, had been sending child pornography online.
In an investigation and with the help of the East Baton Rouge parish Sheriff’s Office, it was learned that Barnes was a game vendor would be in Independence on the weekend of March 7 for an event.
Event organizers reportedly helped the TPSO to plan Barnes’ arrest, and he was taken into custody without incident on Thursday, March 6.
Forensics reportedly show that Barnes’ cell phone contained sexual abuse material including videos of infants and videos of adults having sex with animals.
He faces charges of 65 counts of pornography involving juveniles under 13, 11 counts of pornography involving juveniles, and 12 counts of sexual abuse of an animal.
The investigation remains ongoing and includes not only the case in Independence, but his online activity elsewhere and an allegation involving a child in Texas.
