Springfield man accused of stealing wire in Ponchatoula

PONCHATOULA, La. (WGNO) — A Springfield man has been arrested after he allegedly stole wiring from the AT&T communication system in Ponchatoula.

According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, 45-year-old David Allen Bezar was arrested on Wednesday, March 5, after the sheriff’s office received report of wire theft at the Natalbany River Bridge on Highway 22 a week earlier.

Through investigation, Bezar was identified as a suspect, who would allegedly burn the stolen wire in order to make bricks out of the copper, which he would then sell.

Bezar was later taken into custody with the help of the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement officials say he was found with scraps of AT&T wire, as well as copper bricks and detailed, handwritten notes that explained his entire alleged operation, including how the wire would be stolen, how it would be sold and through which avenues.

The LPSO booked Bezar on charges of illegal possession of stolen property (felony) and possession of schedule II drugs (methamphetamine). Once transferred to Tangipahoa Parish, he will face one count each of felony theft, criminal conspiracy to commit theft and offenses against electronic mail providers.
