Simpson rolls past Summerfield in Class C State Championship

HAMMOND, LA (KTAL/KMSS) — On Friday, the Summerfield girls basketball team faced off against Simpson in the Class C State Championship.

Simpson came out hot, putting up an 11-0 run to make for a 21-10 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Scoring in the second quarter was a similar story, Simpson nearly doubling the amount of points of the Lady Rebels with a 41-22 advantage at halftime.

The Broncos kept piling on the points in the second half and Summerfield had no answer, with Simpson taking the title, 73-41.

Summerfield struggled to get shots to fall, shooting just 14-59, 23.7% throughout the entire game, compared to Simpson’s 42.2%

Leading scorers for the Lady Rebels were Akeriah Jones with 13 points and Armiyah Williams and Zyan Smith with 11 apiece.

Simpson’s leading scorers were Olivia Edwards with 21, Dakota Miller with 20, and Hallie Rollins with 10.

Summerfield finishes the season as the Class C State-Runner Up, with a record of 27-9. Simpson puts a bow on their state championship season with a record of 41-2.
