According to a press release, companies and graduate schools from Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, and Arkansas will be hunting for their next employees and students. Industries most represented include K-12 education, healthcare, defense and law enforcement, financial services, manufacturing, hospitality and casino, and government. Positions include full-time as well as part-time and internships.
“Make sure to update your documents like your resume, and bring enough copies for all of the employers you plan to talk to,” said Jennie Flynn-McKevitt, LSUS Director of Career Services. “Prepare an introduction for what you will say when you step up to the table. This introduction should include name, major, when you’re graduating, and any projects or skills you want to highlight to kick off the conversation.”
The career fair will be held on Thursday, March 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the second floor or LSUS’s University Center in Shreveport. There will be resume-building sessions on March 12 and March 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Success Center. Students and alumni can also have professional headshots taken on March 12 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Student Success Center.
“Even if you’re not specifically looking for an internship or a job, just come to see who is excited to hire you,” Flynn-McKevitt said. “Make connections, get comfortable talking to people, and learn about the opportunities that might be good things for you to pursue in the future. You’ll be surprised by what you find.”
Visit LSUS’s Career Fair Quick Tips page to find a list of organizations that will be present as well as resume resources. The release recommended that attendees dress in business attire, but at least business casual for students that might not have access to professional attire.
