Lakeview crowned Division IV Non-select state champion with victory over Arcadia

HAMMOND, LA (KTAL/KMSS) — On Friday, the Lakeview girls basketball team became the victors of the Division IV Non-select state champions with a close 38-34 victory over Arcadia.

Lakeview’s lead began early, holding Arcadia to just four points in the first quarter and ten in the entire first half. While things were being taken care of on the defensive end, the Lady Gators put up 20 points of their own, making it a 20-10 game at half.

But the Lady Hornets would not go down quietly. They began their comeback in the third, outscoring Lakeview 11-7, cutting the Lady Gators lead down to 27-21.

In the fourth, Arcadia put up more points than any other quarter in the game, cutting it down to just a two-point game with little time left.

But Lakeview was able to just hold off the Lady Hornets, pulling off the victory and winning the title of Division IV Non-select girls basketball state champions, finishing the season with a 29-5 record. Arcadia would finish with a 28-5 record.

Leading scorers for the Lady Gators were Timberlyn Washington with 13 points, Da’Zya Johnson with 10, and A’miya Marshall with 7. Leading the Lady Hornets were DeAsia Alexander with 11 points, Arianna Williams with nine points, and Jamiah Greer with six points.
