81-year-old man killed in house fire in Ravenswood
CHICAGO — An 81-year-old man is dead following a house fire on the city’s North Side.

According to Chicago fire officials, the blaze erupted around 5 p.m. Thursday at a building in the 5100 block of North Oakley Avenue in the Ravenswood neighborhood.

Crews responded to the scene and learned that someone was trapped inside the burning home and quickly began a search.

Officials said an 81-year-old man was located inside and taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The medical examiner has identified the man as Jose Alcazar. He was the brother of the building’s owner.

Seven other people who lived inside the duplex were able to escape, and were not injured.

SkyCam9 was over the scene at around 5:20 p.m. when smoke could be seen billowing from the building’s roof as crews worked to control the blaze.

The fire caused extensive damage to the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
