Parents of children who threaten Kentucky schools would be fined if House bill passes

FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — A bill aimed at holding parents accountable for student-led terroristic threats against schools is advancing through the Kentucky legislature.

House Bill 621 would fine parents of students who made threats against a school in the Commonwealth even if there was no intent to follow through with them.

The bill would effectively be used to compensate local law enforcement agencies for the costs of responding to school threats. In addition to the fine, the bill reportedly requires mental health services for the student involved in making the threat.

HB 621 was passed in a committee vote on Wednesday and will be voted on next in the Kentucky House of Representatives.
