OPSO wraps up Mardi Gras public safety efforts

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Orleans Parish Office has wrapped up their public safety efforts following the carnival season and Mardi Gras day, 2025.

According to a release from the OPSO, law enforcement presence was in full force during the season, placed all along parade routes with 200 OPSO deputies and 225 officers from 25 partner agencies over the 10 parade days.

The law enforcement officers worked on several different efforts, including the mobile booking unit in the French Quarter, mounted and motorcycle patrol, manning the Operation Lost Kids Zone and supporting crime victims with the NOLA Hub.

The NOLA Hub, located at the New Orleans Family Justice Center, was supported by the OPSO Crime Victim Reparations Unit and partners, including non-profits. They covered the area from Downtown to the Riverfront to let people know about the hub, and to help victims of around 200 crimes, including homicide, shooting, child abuse, sexual assault and human trafficking.

The OPSO reports 106 total bookings at the Mobile Communications and Alternate Intake and Processing Compound Unit in the French Quarter, including 53 weapons-related charges, 52 drug-related charges and 12 battery/assault-related charges.
