Independence man gets over 7 years in prison for assaulting baby

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man from Independence, Oregon was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison after authorities said he physically assaulted a one-month-old baby in his care.

Steven William Hartman, 29, was sentenced by a Polk County judge after pleading guilty to first-degree assault involving a child under six, the Polk County District Attorney’s Office said.

Hartman was also sentenced to three years post-prison supervision.

He is not eligible for a reduced sentence or early release due to the Measure 11 mandatory minimum sentencing law.
