On Thursday, however, there was a special Barkus
The Windsor Court Hotel hosted a flag raising ceremony to show their ties to the Mystic Krewe of Barkus and how they love to pamper pets at the Windsor Court.
Petey Benson is a 12-year-old Yorkie, and he will reign as King of Barkus in Sunday’s dog parade.
“I had my dealership make a little police car so we’ll have a mini Yorkie, a fake one, and we’ll have someone remotely driving that. Then we’ll have a King’s float and I’ll have my staff on that,” Benson said.
Before Barkus and after today’s celebration, The Windsor Court threw Petey a tea party where they served him something special.
“Our executive chef made his favorite: a little bit of chicken and carrots,” Ralph Mahanna, General Manger of the Windsor Court Hotel said.
Petey needs the fuel for Barkus, where he’ll be dressed to impress.
“That’s his Karl Lagerfeld outfit, so he’ll be dressed as Karl Lagerfeld because he loves Chanel,” Benson said.
Petey is not only the king of Barkus, but of Ms. Benson’s heart.
“He gives me a lot of attention and I give him a lot of attention, and he sleeps in the bed with me. He’s the king of the house,” Benson said.
Barkus rolls through the French Quarter on Sunday at 2 p.m., starting at North Rampart and St. Ann streets.
