CHICAGO — A Chicago Ridge man is facing a felony charge in connection with a shooting that unfolded inside a South Side apartment in mid-2023.

Chicago police say 36-year-old Lorenzo Smith has been charged with one felony count of first-degree murder. It is a charge that officers say stems from Smith’s alleged role in a shooting that left a 28-year-old woman injured.

According to an initial report by police, the shooting allegedly occurred in the evening hours on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, inside an apartment in the 200 block of 42nd Street in Bronzeville.

It is unclear what led to the shooting and authorities have not provided an update on the victim’s condition.
