Beaverton man sentenced for attempt to elude officers, committing ID theft in adult entertainment store

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Beaverton man who fled police two years ago, and was found with other people’s identification in an adult entertainment store last year, has been sentenced.

The Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office reported that Christopher Shane McKelvey was hit with a 58-month sentence on Wednesday for crashing into another vehicle while attempting to evade police. He was sentenced to another 20 months for a separate identity theft case.

According to the authorities, the 43-year-old man “has a long history of identity theft with numerous felony convictions going back more than 20 years.”

Officials said the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop him as he drove a BMV with no license plates or visible temporary permit on May 23, 2022, but he accelerated to nearly 90 mph. The DA’s Office said officers stopped their pursuit when McKelvey sped up, eventually crashing into another vehicle near Southeast Oatfield Road and Glen Echo Avenue.

He fled the scene on foot before being captured by officers in the same area. The other driver, who later accused the officers of negligence in a lawsuit, was hospitalized for two weeks.

McKelvey pleaded no contest to charges of third-degree assault and attempting to elude a police officer, officials reported.

Later on Aug. 7, 2024, around 3 a.m., the DA’s Office said deputies responded to calls of a “suspicious person” at Fantasyland on Southeast 82nd Avenue. Authorities alleged McKelvey was found hiding in a backroom.

“He provided deputies with photo identification that belonged to someone else,” Clackamas County officials said. “Deputies found a card with McKelvey’s true identification — along with bank cards, a PayPal debit card, an Oregon driver’s license and identification cards belonging to other people — in a garbage can. “

He pleaded guilty to a singular count of aggravated identity theft, and another five counts of identity theft were dismissed due to a plea deal.

Clackamas County said McKelvey also faces identity theft charges in two different Washington County cases.
