Where Y’at this Weekend: Chanteuse Concert Series, Wiener Dog Racing, Mahalia Jackson Theater, Mardi Paws

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — While Fat Tuesday is over until next year, the fun isn’t finished. This weekend features a classic movie whose score is played live in concert, a music series celebrating local female singers and not one, but two different events for dog-lovers. Here are Where Y’at’s weekend picks!
  • First, fans of female singers, don’t miss the return of the Chanteuse Concert Series at the George & Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center. The action kicks off Friday night, March 7, with Lena Prima, and is followed on Saturday by Cristina Kaminis. Next week brings Stephanie Jordan and others…tickets can be found on the Jazz & Heritage website.
  • Next, get ready for the most adorable race of the year! The Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots will host their annual Wiener Dog Racing on Saturday afternoon, March 8. Watch as dachshunds dash their way to glory in a 30-yard sprint, competing for a share of $1,000 in cash and prizes. May the best dog win!
  • Head to the Mahalia Jackson Theater on Saturday evening, March 8 for a movie experience like no other…as the beloved score of the movie “Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark” is played live by the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, while the film plays on the big screen!
  • Finally, on Sunday afternoon, March 9 in downtown Covington hosts the wonderful dog parade “Mardi Paws”…presenting their theme “Mardi Paws Gets in the Game!” It’s a canine celebration combining classic board games, video games, and more! This family-friendly event promises plenty of paw-some fun!
