Based in Crown Point, the Lake County Coroner’s Office reported that a cleanup crew working on a ramp from U.S. 241 to southbound I-65 found the body of Venezuelan national Nelson Daniel Ramos-Rivas on Feb. 28 around 9:20 a.m.
The agency said the 23-year-old man’s last known residence was in Tillamook County.
When the Coroner’s Office and investigators from Indiana State Police’s Lowell District responded to the scene, they “quickly suspected” that foul play led to Ramos-Rivas’ death. According to authorities, an autopsy conducted the same day confirmed the case should be ruled a homicide.
His identity was confirmed through fingerprints, but officials said “all resources in locating next of kin [have] been exhausted.” The Lake County coroner is seeking assistance in finding anyone with a connection to Ramos-Rivas.
