'Very wicked': Fierce winds tear roof off north Abilene home
ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A hazy sky and howling winds set the scene in Abilene today, bringing with them the expected—but never welcome—damage. In North Abilene, the Garcias spent the morning listening to their house rattle, only for their entire roof to be ripped away shortly before noon.

Sharon Garcia, whose home sits near the intersection of Burger Street and Ambler Avenue, said the strong winds had been shaking the house all morning. But despite the dust storm’s intensity, nothing seemed too unusual — until just before noon, when an earthquake-like jolt changed everything.

“One time, it made a big up and down, like when you get in an earthquake. Then we were sitting here, I’m eating my breakfast, and all of a sudden we heard a loud noise, and we heard it [the roof] hit the road,” Garcia shared. “It was wicked. Very wicked.”

Luckily, no one was injured. High winds and elevated fire conditions are expected to persist throughout the day, so be sure to stay safe!
