Rockford man accused of strangling woman after smashing her phone

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Bryan Sanchez, 31, for allegedly breaking a woman’s phone and strangling her.

On March 1, around 8:45 p.m., authorities responded to the 1900 block of Jamestown Drive for reports of a domestic disturbance. The incident started when the suspect started smashing the victim’s phone on the ground outside.

Both of them started arguing and “tussling,” according to court records.

The incident escalated when Sanchez started strangling her, the woman told officers. He proceeded to push her to the ground, police reported.

The suspect told authorities he was not violent toward the victim.

Sanchez is charged with domestic battery, aggravated battery causing strangulation and criminal property damage.
