Recap: Jesuit beats Holy Cross and Huntington upsets Ponchatoula in Division I Select playoffs

NEW ORLEANS — The second round of the Division I Select boy’s basketball playoffs was eventful.

No. 8 Jesuit defeated No. 9 Holy Cross, 63-59. Senior forward, Brewer Nitcher, powered the Blue Jays to a postseason win over their Catholic League rival with a 33-point output.

Jesuit advances to the quarterfinal round where they will face top-seeded Liberty.

Also in the Catholic League, No. 7 John Curtis advances to the quarterfinals after an impressive 57-39 win over No. 10 Rummel.

The Patriots will face No. 2 Catholic of Baton Rouge in the third round.

No. 4 St. Aug defeated No. 13 Bonnabel, 62-31 Tuesday night. The Purple Knights will host No. 5 Alexandria in the quarterfinal round.

The biggest upset in the second round of the bracket came from Tangipahoa Parish. No. 11 Huntington defeated No. 6 Ponchatoula, 70-66.

Cory Jackson finished with a team-high 24 points.

This was the Green Wave’s first year in Division I Select after winning back-to-back Division I Non-Select state championships.
