Ouachita Parish school responds to Facebook post of mother claiming she was asked to leave “Donuts with Dads”

OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KTVE/KARD) — On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, an Ouachita Parish mother posted on her Facebook page that she was reportedly asked to leave a “Donuts with Dads” event at George Welch Elementary School. In her post, the mother alleged that she was asked to leave because she was not a dad.

Officials of George Welch Elementary School released the following statement concerning the alleged incident:

On Tuesday, George Welch Elementary hosted Donuts with Dads for grades 1, 3, and 5. Students were encouraged to invite their dads, grandfathers, uncles, or any significant male figure in their lives. Some moms attended also. At no point was any parent turned away from the event. We strive to create a welcoming environment for all who walk through our doors. In an effort to continue to meet that standard, we will revisit our family functions in the future.
