Brandon Lee, 35, was found guilty by a federal jury of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was sentenced to nine years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
According to court documents, Lee stole a Honda Accord in April 2023 while the owner was distracted at a food truck. Lee drove the vehicle to Cumberland where police eventually located the stolen car at an apartment complex.
Lee is accused of firing a gun in the air after being spotted by police officers. He then ditched the gun and attempted to escape on foot but was captured. DNA found on the gun matched Lee, who was barred from owning a firearm due to being a convicted felon.
“This defendant’s reckless use of a firearm endangered officers and innocent bystanders in their own backyards. I hope this sentence will bring comfort to our citizens and those impacted knowing that Mr. Lee is behind bars and not free to terrorize others,” said John E. Childress, acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana.
