Eagles sign Saquon Barkley to contract extension one year into new deal

(WHTM) — The Philadelphia Eagles are rewarding Saquon Barkley with a new contract less than a month after winning Super Bowl LIX.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles and Barkley agreed to a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension. The agreement comes less than a year after the Eagles signed Barkley as a free agent to a multi-year contract.

The new deal makes Barkley the NFL’s first running back to earn more than $20 million per year. Schefter reports the deal includes $36 million fully guaranteed at signing and the ability to earn $15 million in incentives.

Barkley had initially signed a reported three year deal worth a reported $37,750,000 prior to the 2024 season after six years with the New York Giants. The extension now keeps Barkley with the Eagles through the 2028-29 season. Barkley will turn 32 when this new deal ends.
