According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles and Barkley agreed to a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension. The agreement comes less than a year after the Eagles signed Barkley as a free agent to a multi-year contract.
The new deal makes Barkley the NFL’s first running back to earn more than $20 million per year. Schefter reports the deal includes $36 million fully guaranteed at signing and the ability to earn $15 million in incentives.
Barkley had initially signed a reported three year deal worth a reported $37,750,000 prior to the 2024 season after six years with the New York Giants. The extension now keeps Barkley with the Eagles through the 2028-29 season. Barkley will turn 32 when this new deal ends.
The Penn State product Barkley nearly broke the NFL single-season rushing record in his first year with the Eagles, rushing for over 2,000 yards during the regular season.
Barkley finished the season with a league-high 2,005 rushing yards and won Offensive Player of the Year. He was also named to the All-Pro First Team and was third in the MVP voting.
Barkley added to his historic season with a league high 499 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns in the playoffs. He also now owns the Eagles single-season rushing yard record and is fourth all-time with 13 rushing touchdowns.
