FRANKLIN, La. (
KLFY) — The energy was electric from residents at the Mardi Gras Parade, as the community let the good times roll.
Over 15 colorful floats rolled down Main Street in Franklin, with marching bands and dancers following them closely behind.
In addition, revelers were also greeted by royalty, as the King and Queen reigned over the parade.
Though rain was on its way to the area, the atmosphere of the parade was vibrant. Bennett Martinez, with the Krewe of Teche Float, who said it is his first time riding in the annual parade.
“I’m feeling that everyone’s going to be saying, hey come and get me, hey throw me something,” said Martinez. “I hope that everyone is going to be surprised, every single one of my friends is going to see me”.
Clara Williams, a longtime resident of Franklin, said these parades are important, as they allow individuals of all backgrounds to embrace the rich history of Mardi Gras.
“It’s nothing like a Franklin Louisiana Mardi Gras, it’s better than New Orleans,” said Williams. It’s a wonderful thing, it’s time, it’s due season, it’s a wonderful event, and we’re happy everybody is out here black and white mixing together, it’s a good thing”.
