Stony Lonesome adds obstacle course, will host RFC Spring Edition

Ala. – Cullman County’s Stony Lonesome OHV Park is unveiling a recently built obstacle course.

Park Manager Tyler Lindsey said the idea for the course came to fruition following a discussion about Ride for a Cure.

“We were approached by a gentleman named Jeremy Reeves with the idea of a spring event called Ride for a Cure,” he said. “He’s the owner/operator of The Elyse Reeves Foundation, which raises money to help families in need when their children are diagnosed with cancer. He went through similar circumstances himself.”

Lindsey said they’ve had several volunteers help. 

“The volunteers have provided equipment, fuel, supplies and their time,” Lindsey said. “We’ve used cross ties, concrete slabs and loader tires to build the course. It will have a whoop section, a loader tire obstacle, a cross-tie ramp and some other dirt obstacles.”

Lindsey said they are operating with zero extra dollars for the project, relying solely on volunteers and sponsors.

The RFC (Ride for a Cure) Spring Edition will take place March 6-8, at Stony Lonesome.  

“This is a fundraising event so the fee is $70 for three days of riding events,” Lindsey said. “There is lots of prize money and giveaways. We’re also having several food vendors join us. This will be a great day of fun and fellowship!”

Events will include a poker run, guided night rides, Barbie jeep race, barrel racing, the new obstacle course and more.
