Second half of IN legislative session begins

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The second half of the Indiana legislative session is underway as lawmakers headed back to work Monday, following a week-long break. One of the most important pieces of legislation on their plate is still not where the governor wants it.

During a roundtable discussion in Anderson on Friday, Governor Mike Braun said he was disappointed lawmakers removed a provision that would have reset property tax rates to what they were in 2021.

The Governor said he wants local governments and schools that say his property tax plan could hurt them financially to prove it.

“I’m going to be able to see every county, every jurisdiction who did and who didn’t, and then I think, they’ll have to probably answer to their own constituents and make the case why they wouldn’t be for something that is that reasonable,” said Gov. Braun.

The House Ways and Means Committee will have its first discussion on the senate property tax bill on Wednesday.
