Man charged for attacking Rockford officer, throwing rocks at cars

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Police arrested a homeless man, Sidney Malone Jr., 23, on Friday after he allegedly threw rocks at cars and then attacked the Rockford officer who approached him.

According to the criminal complaint, around 9 p.m. on Friday, February 28th, a caller advised police that a man was throwing rocks at vehicles and smashing windows in the 200 block of N. Main Street.

The responding officer reported seeing a man, matching the suspect’s description, walking north along N. Court Street, toward Park Avenue and approaching him.

However, police said Malone disobeyed instructions and ran, leading the officer on a foot chase for 30 yards, before he stopped and turned around, shouting “Come here, bitch!” at the pursuing officer.
