Arson investigation underway after house fire in Salt Lake

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A suspect is in custody and an arson investigation has begun after a house fire in Salt Lake on Monday afternoon.

According to Captain Chad Jepperson with the Salt Lake City Fire Department, the house fire occurred in the area of 400 North 300 West. Fire officials were called about the fire around 5 p.m.

Jepperson said the fire occurred in the basement of the house, but was contained to a single room. There was no one in the house at the time of the blaze.

The suspect has been identified as an adult male, and he is in custody. The fire is suspected to be arson.

There is no further information at this time.
