The city, along with Washington County and Metro, came together Monday for the groundbreaking of the new site, located on SW 17th, with the aim to help shelter 75 people.
According to officials, the shelter will have onsite meals, hygiene and laundry facilities, and will include 35 indoor congregate sleeping areas and 40 individual shelter pods. The shelter will also allow pets.
“The City of Hillsboro is committed to supporting efforts that provide compassionate care and pathways to housing while also addressing the impacts of homelessness on businesses and our community,” said Mayor Beach Pace. “We are grateful to have support from Washington County and Metro as we make this investment to meet immediate needs and foster long-term change.”
The shelter is made possible by $17 million in funding from the city, county and state, and from a voter-approved metro measure.
