Deputies say on Saturday they responded to a homeless encampment outside of Dinuba for a report of a stabbing.
The sheriff’s office says they took over the case after learning the stabbing took place outside of Dinuba. The victim had walked to the city of Dinuba to find a phone to call 9-1-1, and Dinuba police responded.
Investigators report an argument occurred between the victim and the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Jose Jimenez. At some point, Jimenez grabbed a kitchen steak knife and attempted to stab the victim in the head.
Detectives say when the victim blocked the knife, he sustained a deep laceration to his right arm, which required treatment at a local hospital. The victim has since been released from the hospital.
Deputies report Jimenez was later located and arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
