Starting Monday, March 3, all southbound lanes of Capitol Avenue will close between 14th and 16th streets. This is part of the construction work near IU Health’s new downtown hospital.
Crews need to do some underground utility work. Shutting down traffic will give them room to work.
IU Health said the full closure will last through Wednesday, March 12. A single lane will reopen on March 13.
Southbound traffic on Capitol Avenue will be detoured to Meridian Street during the closure. The sidewalk along the east side of the closed portion of Capitol will remain accessible.
Northbound IndyGo Red Line and Purple Line buses will continue to operate. Southbound buses will use the northbound lane without picking up or dropping off passengers.
Riders may use the temporary southbound stop at the intersection of Capitol Avenue and 12th Street instead of the 14th Street and Capitol Avenue station.
