Troopers with ISP were traveling northbound when they found the man around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28. Idaho police said the troopers pulled over near mile marker 85 to help a driver after they saw a white 2008 Toyota Camry in the shoulder with its hazards on.
“Troopers stopped to assist and found the driver, a 31-year-old male from Utah, deceased from a gunshot wound,” a press release from ISP reads.
The man’s death was ruled a homicide by the Bingham County Coroner’s Office. The dead driver has been identified as a 31-year-old man from Utah, but further identifying information has not yet been released.
The northbound lanes of I-15 were closed overnight for the investigation but have since reopened. The lanes were closed for the safety of both responders and travelers, ISP said.
Officials have asked for assistance with the investigation from the public, and are seeking information from people who may have witnessed the incident.
“Anyone who drove past the Camry, saw any vehicles stopped nearby or witnessed any suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact ISP District 5 Investigations at (208) 239-9850,” ISP said.
