For the fourth consecutive day, daytime highs reached at least 50 degrees across much of the area. That’s a far cry from the bitter, arctic air that dominated the weather scene just a week ago.
After some light rain in the overnight hours, a Dense Fog Advisory was in effect for a few hours as visibility diminished to a mile or less in some locations. The advisory expired at 7 a.m.
Winds gusted well above 30 mph in the afternoon which made the mild thermometer readings feel a few degrees colder. The day saw a little more than half the amount of possible sunshine.
As mild as it’s been this week, it’s a far cry from the abnormal warmth observed one year ago on this date when the high temperature reached 74 degrees, just one degree shy of the all-time record for the month of February.
The unusual warmth ended with severe thunderstorms that night, including a dozen tornadoes across Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana.
