Hanford man arrested in 2020 Five Points homicide, deputies say

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man has been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting in Five Points that ended the life of a teenager and injured an 18-year-old in 2020, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said on Friday.

Deputies say Allan Godinez Cardoso, 28, of Hanford was arrested and booked in the Fresno County Jail in connection with the homicide of Gregory Sanchez of Coalinga, 17. He had an active arrest warrant for a homicide and two attempted homicides.

Around 1 p.m. on Jan. 15, 2020, an officer with the California Highway Patrol was conducting a traffic stop on Highway 145, just south of W. Excelsior Avenue in Five Points when a Honda Fit driving north on Highway 145 abruptly crossed over the southbound lane and stopped next to them.

Officers say the men in the vehicle were shouting they had just been shot. Deputies from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and emergency medical personnel were called for assistance. The officer found an 18-year-old passenger suffering from a gunshot wound to his forearm and Sanchez, suffering from a gunshot wound to his buttocks.

The sheriff’s office reports the teenager lost consciousnesses, but was revived after officers performed live-saving measurements on him. Both victims were transported to a hospital in Hanford, where Sanchez succumbed to his injuries.

Homicide detectives with the sheriff’s office responded to the scene, and say the driver of the victim’s car reported he was driving south on Highway 145 when he approached Yuba Avenue and a car pulled alongside him, shooting at his vehicle.

According to the driver’s statement to the sheriff’s office, he turned around and headed toward the CHP officer for help after noticing his passengers were injured. He recalled seeing the officer when they were handling the traffic stop.

Deputies say Cardoso was determined to be the primary suspect in this case. The shooting was determined to be gang-related. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Juan Galindo at 559-600-8215.
