Boy Scouts leader charged with sexually assaulting 5 minors over 15 year span in Kane County

ST. CHARLES, Ill. — An 84-year-old man, a former Boy Scouts leader, has been charged in the sexual assaults of five minors over a span of 15 years in Kane County.

Michael Farris, of Montgomery, Illinois, is charged with 23 counts of criminal sexual assault and 67 counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault.

According to the Kane County State’s Attorney, Farris allegedly committed acts of sexual penetration with five victims between the ages of 13 and 17 from January 20, 2008 to July 30, 2022.

Farris was taken into custody at his home Wednesday, following a thorough investigation from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Investigators believe Farris may have had more victims.

The state’s attorney’s office reports Farris was involved in organizations such as train club and the Boy Scouts of America as a leader.

A Kane County judge denied Farris pre-trial release following a court appearance Thursday. Farris is due back in court on Friday, March 7.
