Trainer shares tips to stick to your health goals for American Heart Month

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — February is American Heart month, and you can celebrate by taking care of your heart health.

According the American Heart Association, one of the many ways to boost your heart health is through fitness and physical activity.

Only one in five adults and teens get enough exercise. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends adults fit in at least 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity activity or 75 minutes a week of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity.

Many people make their new years resolution fitness-oriented, but the question is: What happens after January? Does the motivation expire?

Trainer at Title Boxing in Shreveport, Paten Allen, spoke to NBC 6 about how to stay on track with your health journey no matter what time of year.

“Just keep two things in mind- Consistency and progressively adding on to whatever that program is that you have set before yourself. Walking, running, hitting the gym once twice a week- just make sure you’re staying consistent with that,” said Allen. “Keeping that goal in mind, working towards it constantly by adding more and more to it until you have a good little routine out, is definitely the best advice I can give to sticking to that.”

The boxing gym is located on 1409 E 70th Street, Suite 126, in Shreveport. They offer both group classes and personal training, for all levels. The gym is also currently having a promotional deal, where for $40, you can get five classes and hand wraps, with the purchase of gloves. For more information, visit their website.
