Shreve Memorial Library Children’s Book Festival returns for a sixth straight year

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The Shreve Memorial Library announced Thursday that the 6th annual Children’s Book Festival will be held at LSU Shreveport in May.

According to a press release, the annual event is a family-friendly, daylong literary celebration featuring children’s book authors and illustrators, costumed characters, and interactive games and activities for children and families.

“Created in 2018 under the vision and guidance of Shreve Memorial Library Executive Director, John Tuggle, the Shreve Memorial Library Children’s Book Festival encourages children to develop an early love of reading and promotes early childhood literacy, bringing together authors, illustrators and the community to celebrate literacy,” the press release stated. “The 2025 Shreve Memorial Library Children’s Book Festival will be presented in memory of John Tuggle, who sadly passed away in September 2024 after a battle with cancer.”

The SML encourages local authors and illustrators to partake in the festival by registering for their own booth to share their works. Spaces are available for $25 each and include table and chairs as well as being listed in the official festival guide. Those interested should contact Emily Horan at 318-226-4980 or ehoran@shreve-lib.org.

The press release also stated that community groups, organizations, and businesses are also invited to join Shreve Memorial Library in Literacy Lane, a special area of the Children’s Book Festival where community partners come together to promote a love of reading and lifelong learning in fun, interactive ways. Organizations are encouraged to sign up for a free booth space to provide FREE activities or games for children and festival attendees.

Groups interested in joining Literacy Lane should contact Samantha Bonnette at (318) 213-4992 or sbonnette@shreve-lib.org. Author booths and spots in Literacy Lane must be reserved by the April 17 deadline. Visit www.shreve-lib.org for more information and festival updates.

The 2025 festival will be held on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the LSUS campus and is free to the public.
