Freeman was sentenced to serve 35 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Rochelle Police announced Freeman was arrested in the September 2022 murder of Devin Gibbons, 28, who was found dead at the scene of a house fire.
According to officials, firefighters responded to the home in the 500 block of 7th Avenue on September 18th, 2022, at 10:46 a.m. and found smoke coming from the home.
Gibbons was found dead within.
In 2023, police announced the arrest of Freeman on charges of First Degree Murder, Arson, and Concealment of a Homicidal Death.
“This was in a cold and calculating way so we are by the very nature of what we charged him with. At this point, we believe premeditation and a plan was involved when he came to Rochelle,” said Ogle County State Attorney, Mike Rock.
