Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation donates $15,000 to Christian Appalachian Project In Lexington, Ky

Irving, TX and Lexington, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation and WDKY-TV, the Nexstar Media Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: NXST) television station serving Lexington, KY, and the surrounding area, announced Friday that the Foundation will donate $15,000 to Christian Appalachian Project (CAP). The donation will be used to assist relief efforts for victims of the recent Kentucky floods.

During the weekend of Feb. 15-16, severe winter weather brought widespread flooding to Kentucky. Thunderstorms across the state saw rainfall totals ranging from two inches to more than six inches, with large hail and damaging wind gusts. More than 300 roads were closed, 40,000 homes and businesses were left without power, and tens of thousands of people were without water or under boil water advisories. The flooding and severe weather aftermath claimed the lives of 23 people and is considered one of the worst disasters to hit Kentucky in years.

“Once again, Kentucky families have been devasted by the recent flooding,” said Monte Costes, vice president and general manager of WDKY-TV. “I’m proud the Nexstar Charitable Foundation has made this $15,000 donation to help CAP with their relief efforts and to provide support for our shared neighbors who are struggling.”

As CAP celebrates 60 years of service this year, the organization has grown to impact the lives of nearly two million people each year. Through donor support, dedicated volunteers, and a selfless staff, CAP focuses on nine human services priorities: food insecurity, clothing, home repair, emergency assistance, early childhood education, counseling, youth development, elderly services, and disaster relief. Their reach extends to parts of all 13 states of the Appalachian region, including Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
