Elie T. Edwards, 46, of New Roads, was arrested on Aug. 4, 2022, as part of a months-long multi-agency investigation that led to the seizure of drugs with a street value of over $600,000.
Drugs included heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamines and marijuana. Investigators seized nearly 19 pounds of heroin. Louisiana State Police and the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office led the investigation.
According to District Attorney Tony Clayton’s office, Edwards faces charges of one count of possession with intent to distribute and one count of conspiracy to distribute each of the following drugs: fentanyl, methamphetamines, cocaine, marijuana and heroin; and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Clayton’s office said Edwards is the first defendant to be tried of the 13 suspects arrested in the case.
