The two teams are no strangers to each other. They met in the state championship game last year where Parkway defeated Denham Springs 57-29 to secure the Lady Panthers second consecutive state title.
“They’re very disciplined,” explained senior Savannah Wilson. “They play defense really well. They’re a tough team, but I feel like we’re confident we can beat them.”
Earlier in this year’s regular season, the Yellowjackets took on Parkway again where the Lady Panthers dominated over Denham Springs winning 50-18.
The Parkway girls’ basketball has been dominant over the past few years and the program has consistently produced strong talent like star LSU guard Mikaylah Williams and Tennesse Tech guard Chloe Larry.
This year it’s been up to Wilson and fellow senior Dakota Howard to lead the Lady Panthers to success.
“What has made us successful is sticking together,” added Wilson. “We do not let any adversity come and split us apart. We always work together, and we never break apart.”
Parkway and Denham Springs will go head-to-head in the quarterfinals this Thursday at 6 p.m. The winner will advance to the semifinals and make the trip down to Hammond for the state tournament.
