Search for boater missing since Monday, unmanned boat found in St. Martin Parish

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents are searching for a missing boater in Banister Canal in lower St. Martin Parish.

Agents learned about the missing boater at around 8 a.m. Tuesday. A commercial fisherman found an unmanned 18-foot aluminum boat before calling authorities. Agents’ investigation found that the operator was ejected from the boat after it struck a pylon.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office and Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office are assisting with the search.
