USA Today has officially named Philadelphia the “Best City for Street Art” as part of its 10Best series.
Mural Arts Philadelphia started as an anti-graffiti program in 1984, and has become one of the” nation’s largest public art programs”.
According to Mural Arts’ website, for over 35 years, Philadelphia has been “uniting artists and communities through a collaborative process, rooted in the traditions of mural-making, to create art that transforms public spaces and individual lives.”
Each year, Mural Arts creates 60–100 public art projects, as well as maintaining its growing collection through a restoration initiative, totaling over 4,000 murals in the city alone.
Philadelphia has also gained international recognition as the “City of Murals” and the “Mural Capital of the World,”, according to Mural Arts Philadelphia and Discover PHL.
