Pennsylvanians may be eligible for free trees: Here’s how

(WHTM) — A new program is being offered to get rid of invasive trees and shrubs from homeowner’s properties in Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania Invasive Replace-ive Program will let property owners replace those invasive species with native trees. Participants can get up to five trees for free to replace the invasive species.

Below is a list of scheduled events:

  • Eerie – Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Darby – Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Greensburg – Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Carlisle – Friday, May 9, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Scranton – Sunday, May 18, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

A list of the invasive trees and shrubs that can be removed is listed below, and others can be found online:

The event is open to all Pennsylvanians. Registration for the events can be done online, and a photo, that can be as early as 2020, of the cut tree/shrub can be submitted through the registration form or by bringing the photo to the event.

Replacement trees are handed out on a first-come, first-served basis.
