According to Illinois State Police, a Peterbilt semi carrying steel poles hit the Lake Street bridge around 11 p.m. Tuesday, causing some of the poles to fall onto I-90. Two cars then hit the poles on the expressway, ISP says, and two people were subsequently taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The expressway was closed until the poles could be moved to the shoulder. It reopened just after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to ISP.
Drivers were urged to proceed slowly and use caution in the area until the steel poles were removed from the shoulder.
