Kentucky March for Life brings hundreds to state capitol

FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — Pro-life supporters from across the state gathered in Frankfort on Wednesday for the Kentucky March for Life.

Standing on the steps of the Kentucky State Capitol, pro-life advocates held signs and prayed.

“I’ve always grown up in a pro-life family, and I think for me, I didn’t know that I could play a part in that moment,” said Students for Life member Ellie Kline.

People from all walks of life joined together, advocating to “choose life.”

“All life is important, from the elderly to the young,” said Reformation Church pastor Jerry Dorris. “So our congregation, we have all the demographics. But everybody agrees that babies are the most innocent and should be afforded the most protection as anybody else.”

Hundreds were also holding signs asking for the support of House Bill 523, which would allow homicide charges against women who get abortions.

“Right now, our laws that protect my six-month-old boy, my grandfather, protect them from being murdered,” said Peyton Bowman. “Those do not protect the image bearers in the womb. All this law would do would bring equal protection to the pre-born child in the womb who says, ‘Hey, you cannot murder them; we are protecting them by the law.'”

Abortions have been illegal in Kentucky since the overturning of Roe v. Wade because of Kentucky’s trigger law, with the only exception of when the mother’s life is at risk.

“There are babies that are being killed in the state of Kentucky,” said Dorris. “Even now, even though our abortion trigger laws say you can’t have surgical abortions here.”

The March for Life Rally comes just a couple of weeks after pro-choice advocates rallied in the Capitol Rotunda for reproductive rights.

Members of Students for Life said it’s important to stand by their beliefs.

“Just gratitude for life, really,” said Katie Beth Osborne. “And I don’t know why you would want to keep that opportunity from someone else because it’s such a gift.”
