Home invasion suspect arrested in Sterling

STERLING, Ill. (WTVO) — A Rock Falls man wanted for home invasion was arrested Tuesday morning in Sterling, according to police.

Officers spotted Baylee Gipson, 25, walking in the area of West 9th Street and Ash Avenue around 9:20 a.m., the Sterling Police Department reported.

Police said Gipson had a warrant in Whiteside County stemming from a December 2024 Sterling home invasion.

He ran when approached by officers and was taken into custody after a foot chase. Police said a loaded gun and 266 grams of cannabis were found during a search.

He was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of a Firearm without a FOID, Possession of Ammunition without a FOID, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Deliver, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Armed Violence.

He was booked into the Whiteside County Jail pending the outcome of a pretrial detention hearing.
