Chicago police said 35-year-old Bobby Thornton has been charged with one felony count of first-degree murder.
The charge stems from Thornton’s alleged role in the deadly shooting of a 35-year-old woman in Grand Crossing.
According to Chicago police, the victim, a 35-year-old woman, was found unresponsive following a well-being check by police at around 6 a.m. on Sunday in the 7600 block of South Ingleside Avenue.
Officers said when she was found, the woman had a gunshot wound to her arm. She was then taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Officers said following the shooting, a firearm was recovered on the scene and a person of interest was taken into custody.
Authorities announced charges against Thornton on Tuesday morning and said he was taken into custody at the scene about 20 minutes after the alleged shooting.
Thornton appeared in court on Tuesday for a detention hearing.
Authorities have not yet identified the victim killed and it is unclear what led to the alleged shooting.
