ST. MARTINVILLE, La (
KLFY) — A candlelight vigil was held for Shentell Brown, the slain St. Martin Parish Assistant District Attorney with the 16th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Professionally, Brown is remembered for her contributions to the juvenile court system and serving with the 16th Judicial District Court since 2002. She is also remembered for her love and passion for helping others.
On Feb. 9, Shentell Brown and her husband Kevin, were involved in a verbal fight while riding in their vehicle in Lafayette. Authorities said the verbal altercation resulted in Kevin drawing a weapon, firing several shots at Brown, and then turning the gun on himself. Two of their children were in the back seat.
At Evangeline Oak Park, loved ones and colleagues gathered to remember and honor Brown’s life and legacy by sharing their memories and words of comfort. Kelli Cantu with Chez Hope, a non-profit family violence crisis center, said they are working with Brown’s loved ones to honor her.
“We just wanted to put on this evening to celebrate her life and honor her as she did so much for our community,” said Cantu.
