The Boss Brothers bring soul food to the Salt Lake Valley — and Utah’s biggest sports teams

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A local business, created by brothers to honor their late mother through cooking, is bringing soul food to the Salt Lake Valley and the Beehive State’s biggest sports teams.

The Boss Brothers told ABC4.com that their mother taught them how to cook at a young age, inspiring their love of food.

After their mother died in 2016, the brothers opened their catering business to cook in her honor. They said her dying wish was for them to remain close.

Now, the brothers have found themselves passing on their family’s recipes to Utah’s biggest sports teams — they’ve been asked to cook for the Utah Jazz and the Utah Hockey Club.

“I was very shocked. And I was excited… so happy that I had to step away from my work and call my brothers, and we was all just shouting on the phone,” owner and chef of Boss Brothers Terrell Norman told ABC4.com.

The brothers are confident and competitive with each other — and are now whipping up meals in the big leagues.

“We started with a grill and a fryer. We came into a tent, we had a mobile kitchen tent. And now we got a food truck,” the brothers said. “And now, we’re cooking for the hockey and Jazz team.”

Cooking for dozens of professional athletes is no easy task — and something light isn’t on the menu: Chicken, pulled beef, mac and cheese, green beans, and baked beans are among the “good, seasoned food” the brothers prepare for the players.

Now that the Boss Brothers have a seat at the table, they’re hoping other Black business owners realize they can do the same.

“Most minority businesses get looked over for certain things, certain opportunities,” the brothers said. “We’re just hoping that we can start something… and show people that, like, you can make it.”

And the Boss Brothers aren’t done yet — one day, they hope to feed all the fans in the stands at the Delta Center.

Until the Boss Brothers open up their own restaurant, you can keep up with them on Instagram, Facebook, and online.
