N.J. mayor, believed to be oldest in U.S., dies at 100

TINTON FALLS, N.J. (WPHL) — Vito Perillo, the mayor of Tinton Falls, Monmouth County, died over the weekend at the age of 100. According to Governor Phil Murphy, Perillo was the country’s oldest mayor.

Read the statement below from Tinton Falls:

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mayor Vito Perillo, a man of integrity, and a beloved member of our community. For the past eight years, he served assiduously, always striving to do what was right for the people he represented.

Respected and admired by all who had the priviledge of knowing him, Mayor Perillo led with wisdom, kindness, and a deep sense of duty. His leadership left a lasting impression, and his legacy of service will be remembered for generations to come.

To those who knew him personally, he was more than just a leader, he was a friend, a mentor, and an inspiration. His warmth, and love for the Borough, will never be forgotten.

We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who mourn this tremendous loss. In honor of his memory we will by continue [sic] the work he so passionately believed in building a better, stronger, and more united community.

Rest in peace, Mayor Perillo. Your legacy will live on in our hearts.
